3.10 The Cheese Badge
Can you imagine a children’s programme parody of a Netflix show with a horror theme? This is exactly what The Cheese Badge gives us. I would love to know if there are any others.

Episode Summary

Start
Duggee is making cheese sandwiches for the Squirrels.
Set-Up
Roly asks Duggee what type of cheese it is but the other Squirrels claim there is only one type of cheese, yellow cheese. However, Duggee is a cheese connoisseur, he has his Cheese Badge.
Story
There are many types of cheese and they are not all yellow:
- Parmesan – a versatile cheese which Betty declares is too hard.
- Ricotta – a creamy cheese which Tag says is to soft.
- Emmental – it has too many holes for Happy.
Duggee has a private cheese collection hidden behind a painting of cheese mountains and a complex security system. Inside is a displace of all the best cheses:
- A vintage brie de la brie de la brie.
- A lesser spotted Devonshire dingle.
- A peppery pickled pecorino from Peru.
However, nothing compares to the Buckminster blue, the smelliest cheese. It has to be kept in a triple-glazed case and can only be handled by experts. Except, it’s gone missing because Roly has it. He complains that the ball is really smelly and now so are his hands.
An alarm starts going off. Luckily Duggee has a hazmat suit handy. All the Squirrels need to do is stay still but Roly has already run away. Duggee and the Squirrels follow the trail of blue spores and handprints. They clean as they go with water and a wipe.
Duggee’s blue detector finds a high reading at the games cupboard. They open the cupboard but it’s only Enid. Then Betty spots the blue footprints and they follow them outside. They hear Roly but they can’t catch him so they devise a trap. Tag dresses as a bird and when Roly runs out of the trees they pull tag out the way. He runs straight into the decontamination chamber where they clean him until he sparkles.

The alarm goes off as Duggee has a blue hand.

Duggee has several outfits in this episode:
- Chef for preparing sandwiches.
- Beret for explaining cheese.
- Hazmat suit for the emergency.
The other Squirrels also wear hazmat suits to capture Roly.
