Baking with children can be a stressful but I find with a little preparation you can enjoy it and the kids are always so proud of what they have made. To get your Cake Badge you will definitely need to do a little baking but hopefully the recipe I have suggested below is easy enough.
Here’s a clickable checklist of ideas to get your Cake Badge:
Learn About Rabbits
The Cake Badge is the ideal time to learn about one of the best recurring groups of characters in Hey Duggee. The rabbits in Hey Duggee are hippies and occasionally French. As far as I am aware rabbits in real life are rarely hippies, although some are French.
Other than being hippies the main difference between the Hey Duggee rabbits and real rabbits is their diet. Like most cartoon rabbits the Hey Duggee characters are fond of carrots and in this episode carrot cake. For real rabbits, carrots are a treat (not unlike cake) and shouldn’t make up a significant part of their diet. To maintain healthy teeth and digestion rabbits should eat a diet that is 90% hay and grass.

Make a Cake

Making a cake is an essential part of getting your Cake Badge is making a cake. I could recommend plenty of simple recipes to make with kids. Fairy cakes or a simple victoria sponge are a good place to start for beginners. However, for our Cake Badges we wanted to make carrot cake cupcakes like Duggee and the Squirrels. We tested out this recipe from the BBC website:
The Cake Badge – Carrot Cakes The Cake Badge – Cake Mix
I can confirm that the recipe was easy enough to do with two small children. Just like the Duggee’s Squirrels my Squirrels were a little horrified by the carrot going into the bowl but they were happy enough to eat the cakes when they came out of the oven. We were also easily able to make substitutions so they were dairy free.
If you are feeling a little more ambitious you could try this recipe from the official Hey Duggee website. I haven’t been brave enough myself and I suspect it is not one to do with the kids but for the kids.
Cake Craft
There is only so much cake you can bake and eat, or so I’m told. We wanted to practice decorating cakes with glitter, sequins and foam shapes. I used the website below for ideas but there are many templates available on pinterest.

Squirrel Club Activity Books
There are a couple of Hey Duggee Activity books with Cake Badge activities in. There are several Hey Duggee activity books available on Amazon. If you only want to purchase one book I would recommend the Super Stickers Activity book as it is by far the best value for money.
